In our new home we will be far from the demands and burdens of the world we now dwell in. The scenery in the new heaven and new earth will be so beyond description it will surely take our breath away. As the ages roll on we will have all the time in the world to spend with fellow believers and loved ones in Christ who will have gone before us and come after us. There will be countless new friends whom we will meet and endless new experiences we will enjoy and share. And, I believe there will be much feasting and celebrating in the presence of our King, his vast host of angels, and the company of the redeemed. And best of all, we will finally meet Jesus, our Redeemer and Savior, face to face and in the flesh.
The writer of Hebrews tells us, "You have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant."
I realize I don't deserve this. If I got what I deserve my fate would be eternal darkness, unending alienation from God, and everlasting misery. But my home and citizenship is in heaven and one day I will enter upon it, not through anything I have done, but by the sheer mercy and grace of God through Jesus Christ alone, who bore my guilt on the cross and paid the awful debt of my sins once and for all. Now I am forgiven and have become the possessor of eternal life. And one day I will finally go to my real home.
May God be forever praised!
