Although the current building was built in 1927, First Baptist Church was started in 1900. On the fifth Saturday in April 1900, Reverend J.L. Finley organized the Mount Olive Baptist Church as part of his work as a Home Missionary under the State Mission Board. The church met in the Mount Olive School for its first year, and reported a membership of 81. Although the first building they made is no longer here, the legacy they have left has impacted church and town.
